Easter Island is one of the most isolated islands in the world. 1200 years ago seafarers came upon the island and started carving weird statues known as "moai" out of the volcanic rock. Easter_Moai.jpgThe building of these statues and the obsession of those creating them was the ultimate downfall of their civilization. They depleted their resources using up the forests for the use of moving the giant moai. The statues were used for ceremonies. As resources became scarce battles broke out and the moai were toppled by enemies. Many of them stood 70 feet tall, but were topple so that the head would fall off.
